As part of the refurbishment of Elm House in Oxford, the Hawskwell House Hotel annexe and previous home of 20th century explorer Francis Bickerton, the client wanted an old and battered credenza given a new lease of life as a statement piece in the hotel foyer.
I applied a base coat of Annie Sloan Burgundy followed by a top coat of Chateau Grey. Once dry I lightly distressed the piece by sanding it back to reveal some of the base coat and then sealed the surface with a good coat of clear wax before working dark in to create texture. The piece had lovely old, almost oriental pewter handles which after cleaning up really finished the credenza off.
